About
About Me and This Site
I work in the IT industry, currently for a large national newspaper publisher. I use this blog to post any useful pointers i come across, or anything i think might help people.
Most of my time is taken up with system admin tasks in a Microsoft environment, but I also dabble in the odd bit of programming, web design and report writing (the business intelligence kind)
If you think there is any software I might find interesting, books worth reading or anything else to do with me or this site feel free to email me at luke@beakersoft.co.uk
Whats on my USB Stick
Like most geeks, I carry a usb pen drive around with me, you never know when you might get called upon to fix something! I use a pen drive with a read only hardware switch, can be very useful to have in case of a major virus outbreak.
- Bootable to a copy of Slax
- 7zip to handle most kind of file archives
- ClamWinPortable to scan for virus
- Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for mounting ISO images
- PuTTYPortable for ssh access
- Recuva for trying to get deleted files back
- Foxit reader for opening pdf’s
- EraserPortable for clearing files completely
- OpenedFilesView for seeing what files are opened by the machine
- Various password sniffers from www.nirsoft.net
- CCleaner for removing junk files from Windows
